SUGAR DADDY

"Sugardaddy"

Northeastern Digital

With silky smooth vocals, a funky rhythm section, and jazzy undertones reminiscent of the most recent Grammy champions – Steely Dan – Sugardaddy mixes a truly ethereal, mellow, and original formula. Every tune on this CD gives you that urge to tap your toes and snap your fingers. Perfect nightclub and party foray. A local group managed out of Mystic, CT, Sugardaddy recorded this CD locally, at Room 29 Studio in Westerly, RI.

Those smooth vocals come from lead singer Graham Thompson. Electric guitarist, Chris Leigh, has written the words and music for all the songs on the CD, except one, "Cold Sweat," a James Brown tune. A strong core band fills each tune with a sturdy mix of bold saxophone, subtle bass guitar and percussive presence, and the right touch of piano and organ that fill the bill to perfection.

Filled with a solid 10 song set over 45 minutes, the CD is an impressive and well-polished debut. The band really clicks together. Produced by Leigh and Thompson as well as David Nigrelli, not to get to technical here, but one can hear and feel the detail and integration on each tune. Everything fits. I don’t want to pick out any one song here as a standout, because this is a stylistic CD. They’re all great. If you’re attracted to this brand of music, you are going to love this CD, and want to play it over and over. Keep an eye out for them at local clubs. They’re definitely sweet.
